Telegram Web and multiple accounts
Short answer: Telegram Web is one login per browser profile. A second tab in the same window does not add a second account. A private window, or a separate Chrome, Edge, or Firefox profile, is the practical way to open another web session. Official desktop and mobile apps are still the place for several accounts in one installation. TGDesk is a different tool: one desktop inbox for several accounts. It is coming soon, paid, and not downloadable yet.
Which Telegram Web you are using
Telegram lists two official web clients on telegram.org/apps, checked October 2026:
- WebA — telegram.org/dl/weba, source at github.com/Ajaxy/telegram-tt.
- WebK — telegram.org/dl/webk, source at github.com/morethanwords/tweb.
Both talk to Telegram. Neither is a multi-account inbox. Pick one client and stay with it for a given profile so you are not debugging two codebases at once.
Why a second tab is the same account
The web client stores the login in the browser profile (site data for that origin). Every normal tab and window that shares the profile reads the same data, so it restores the same session. Signing out in one tab signs that profile out.
Two ways to get a second web login:
- Private or incognito window. It does not share the normal profile's site data, so the web client asks you to log in again. Close the window and that session is gone. This is fine for a short check of a second account.
- A separate browser profile. Chrome, Edge, and Firefox can keep a second profile with its own cookies and site data. Pin that profile to the dock if you use the second account every day. Each profile is still one web session, not a list of accounts.
A different browser (Firefox next to Chrome) also works, because it has its own profile. Running WebA in one profile and WebK in another is allowed. It does not merge the chats.
Do not treat the web client as unlimited
Official Telegram apps support three accounts in one app. Telegram Premium adds a fourth; current Telegram Desktop builds add a slot for each Premium account that is signed in. Premium is billed per account, not once for the whole installation. See the account-limit guide for the desktop and phone details.
Web clients are organized by browser profile, and public write-ups disagree about whether a single web profile can hold the same three-account switcher as the desktop app. This page does not claim that Telegram Web has no three-account limit. If you need several accounts every day, use Telegram Desktop's add-account switcher, or separate Desktop data folders, instead of a row of browser profiles.
Side-by-side
| Telegram Web, one profile | Extra browser profile or private window | TGDesk | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Made by | Telegram (official WebA or WebK) | Same official clients, split by the browser | Independent. Not affiliated with Telegram |
| Logins you see at once | One session for that profile | One session per profile or private window | Designed as one inbox across accounts |
| Install | None | None, beyond another browser profile | Desktop app for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Coming soon, no public download |
| Switching accounts | Stay in that profile, or add a profile | Change window or profile. Chats are not merged | Unread and needs-reply filters across the accounts you add |
| Session storage | Browser site data | That profile's site data. A private window drops it on close | Each login is its own session in an encrypted local vault. Desktop folders can be migrated read-only |
| Translation, voice, text in images | Whatever that official client offers | Same, still per window | In-chat translation, speech-to-text, and OCR are planned. They are not in a public build |
| Price | Free | Free | Paid, coming soon |
When Telegram Web is the right tool
- You are on a computer that is not yours and you only need one account for an hour. Log out before you leave. Prefer a private window.
- You want a second account beside Telegram Desktop without another installation. One extra profile is enough.
- You do not want a desktop install at all. WebA and WebK are the official answer.
When a desktop inbox fits better
A row of browser profiles does not tell you which account is waiting on a reply. You click through windows. TGDesk is being built for that job: several accounts, each an isolated encrypted session on your PC, listed in one inbox. It is not a way to send bulk messages or scrape groups. It does not replace Telegram Web for a quick login on someone else's machine.
Two limits, stated plainly:
- There is no public download. The button on this site stays on the waitlist until the paid launch.
- In-chat translation, speech-to-text, and OCR are planned. Do not expect them in a build you can run today. Official clients already translate messages (whole-chat auto-translate is a Premium feature) and Premium transcribes voice notes.
If you already use Telegram Desktop for three accounts, start there: Telegram Desktop compared with TGDesk.
Bottom line
Use Telegram Web when one login in the browser is enough, and add a private window or a second profile when you need one more. Use Telegram Desktop when you want the official three-account switcher. Use a multi-account inbox only when the work is answering several accounts all day. TGDesk is that inbox, it is paid, and it is not available to download yet.
FAQ
Can I open two Telegram Web accounts in two tabs?
Not in the same browser profile. WebA and WebK store the session in that profile, so a second tab opens the same login. Use a private window or a separate browser profile for another account.
Does Telegram Web allow more than three accounts?
Official Telegram apps document three accounts, with Telegram Premium adding another slot. Web clients are tied to the browser profile. This page does not claim that Telegram Web removes the three-account limit.
What is the difference between WebA and WebK?
Both are official web clients listed on telegram.org/apps. WebA is the telegram-tt client. WebK is the tweb client. Each one still uses the browser profile for its session.
Is TGDesk a Telegram Web client?
No. TGDesk is an independent desktop app, not affiliated with Telegram, and it is not a browser tab. It is coming soon, paid, and has no public download. In-chat translation, speech-to-text, and image text recognition are planned, not in a public build.
